According to gardenorganic.org.uk, Japanese knotweed was initially "most prevalent in South Wales, perhaps due to the moist climate, but it is now widespread throughout the UK". As we mentioned in a previous blog post, South Wales is still - to this day - one of the UK's key Japanese knotweed hotspots, alongside cities like London and Bristol.

In what environments can Japanese knotweed grow?
Well, that's part of the reason why Japanese knotweed is such a nuisance - it's versatile enough to grow in all sorts of different environments. This plant has been observed in such habitats as:
- Roadside verges
- Railway lines
- Alongside rivers and canals
And, of course, Japanese knotweed also flourishes in countless back gardens all over the UK. It's even been known to invade homes in its seemingly tireless search for nourishment!
